Five Virtues, Five Evils
As a Sikh one is constantly trying to become a better human being. We can do this through our actions, words and thoughts. Being a Sikh is a great responsibility and one needs to be aware of the five virtues a Sikh is supposed to attain in his life every day in order to decide righteously.
No human is perfect and all of us have experienced moments of
Kaam - Lust
Krodh - Anger
Lobh - Greed
Moh - Possessiveness
Ahunkar - Ego
These are the five states known at the Five Evils in Sikhism. A Sikh is supposed to stay away from or 'get rid' of them to become a pure human being. This is not an easy task and especially in the beginning, one needs to make himself constantly aware of the Five Virtues he is supposed to attain until they become imbibed in one's soul.
These virtues are
Sat - Truth
Daya - Compassion
Pyare - Love
Nimrata - Humility
Santokh - Contentment
One should meditate on these and they will sooner or later become part of one's self and become the source of all actions, thoughts and speech.
